4-Week Life Issues Bible Class St. John Lutheran Church
7809 Harwood Avenue
Pastor Robert Fleischmann, national director of Christian Life Resources, will conduct this 4-part life issues Bible class entitled, "The Family Dynamic – Facing a New 'Normal' in a Spiritually-Darkened World."
The dates of the classes are Jan. 5, 12, 19; and, Feb. 2.
Jan. 5: "Understanding 'Family' as a Relationship of Design and Purpose"
Description: Every person is created with purpose, set apart by God to do His work, on His behalf, in His kingdom, for His people and to His glory. This class will examine our purposes in life and how those purposes begin within the relationship of a family and are challenged in this generation. This class will serve as the foundation upon which we will build the subsequent classes.
Jan. 12: "Family as a Learning Environment"
Description: From the earliest chapters of Scripture come the commands to train and instruct our children. This class will examine why instruction is important and the initial role of the family in providing that instruction. We will talk about tools for instruction and the integration of family instruction with what happens in our congregation, parochial and secular schools, work environments, social relationships and entertainment.
Jan. 19: "Family as the Proving Grounds for Compassion"
Description: The command to love others is a foundational principle of Scripture. The family is where it begins. This class will look at compassion and concern as a practice that begins within the family - played out in the relationships that exist between family members. Compassion and concern then emanates from the family experience to concern for the family of believers and the world and then comes home again for the care we provide for the dependent members of the family.
NOTE: The final session will take place on Sunday, Feb. 2.
Feb. 2: "Family as a Witness Tool"
Description: Our families are to be legacies of faith modeled and practiced so that others might witness a hope that overshadows all worldly despair. In this class we will be challenged to consider our examples as a family and the lessons others learn by observing us. This will include looking at size (family planning), demonstrations of strength amidst hardship (hope in the darkest valleys), and how we address public sins within the family (cohabitation, same sex relationships, drunkenness, dishonesty, public conviction, etc.).
